Position Details

The Economic Strategy Branch is looking for a dynamic leader with demonstrated experience providing strategic advice to key decision-makers and leading a high performing team. 

The Economic Policy and State Productivity group works to support better economic awareness for Victoria by supporting the government to achieve its objectives related to economic development, regional and local government outcomes, international engagement, transport infrastructure, planning, priority precincts, energy, agriculture, resources and the environment. The group works in a whole of government environment by collaborating with relevant departments and agencies on policy and project development.

The Economic Strategy Branch advises the Premier and Cabinet on current and future economic challenges and opportunities that affect Victorian's prosperity. We do this by understanding the whole of the Victorian economy. 

As the Assistant Director, Budget and Efficiency Reviews, you will be responsible for advising on matters as they relate to the State budget, including in relation to budget reform. You will also be responsible for monitoring the implementation of efficiency and savings measures, and advising on other measures to support budget sustainability.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • experience and achievement in providing authoritative, high quality and timely advice on public policy 
  • managed a range of complex projects through partnerships with people across business areas
  • ability to represent the department's views on intergovernmental and inter-departmental committees
  • ability to establish and maintain relationships 
  • effective people management skills

A qualification in economics, finance or accounting or related area is desirable.
